So. I have been giving much thought to my place in this world. And much thought to the phrase “coming of age.” I don’t know what it means. If I were alive two hundred years ago, I would assume that it meant someone was old enough to be married. But these days media uses it to describe movies and books like “The Perks of being a Wallflower.” (which I have not read, I heard it was fantastic, so I need to do that.)

Through all of this, I can’t help but feel like this phrase applies to  me. I feel like something big is turning and changing, like my life has reached a new phase and I just don’t know what it is. It’s such a strange feeling.

On to other subjects, I love photography, but I suck at it. I know that the #1 way to feel miserable as an artist is to compare your work to others, but I can’t help it 😦 I see the amazing work that contemporary photographers Ryan Pump, Hattie Ellis, and Joshua Trottier produce, and I get soooo depressed. Their work is so inspiring to me, but I feel as if I am a little girl dabbling in her mother’s make up, so to speak. Like no matter what I do, I’ll always be an amateur. At everything. But like everyone says, anything worth having is worth working for, so I’m going to try my hardest to be the kind of photographer that inspires. Or gets paid for their work 😉

Less melancholy subjects for today include my cookie experiment. I made Oreo cheesecake cookies a few days ago! In my opinion, they weren’t that fantastic, but they were addicting and cute to look at. PLus they had an extremely short prep time, so they would be great for a last-minute snack when friends are coming over. Here is the recipe that I used, and some pictures of the process. Although I forgot to take some in the beginning…

(I skipped the white chocolate drizzle, but next time I won’t. I’m also cutting out the chocolate chips, because I felt they were totally unneeded. Wouldn’t these be delicious with mint extract? :0 )

ALSO: the parchment paper is pretty important! It saved me from having to scrub a cookie sheet when I accidently made edible hockey pucks….

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Unsalted Butter, Softened
  • 3 ounces, weight Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup All-purpose Flour
  • ½ cups Mini Chocolate Chips
  • 1 cup Oreo Cookie Crumbs
  • ½ cups White Chocolate Chips, Melted (optional)

Preparation Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and cream cheese using a hand mixer until they are well combined.

Add the sugar and vanilla and mix until ingredients are well combined. Add the flour and mix on low until the flour is incorporated. Stir in the mini chocolate chips.

Scoop the dough into 1″ balls (I used a scoop to insure all measured the same) and roll in Oreo cookie crumbs so cookie is covered. Place covered cookie balls onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the tops are slightly puffed.

Cool on the pan for two minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool. Once cool, drizzle cookies with melted white chocolate. Enjoy!
